    Cascade funding: who is invoiced by the third party?

    The cascade funding partner is invoiced by the third party.

    What is the schedule and the size of the cascade funding payment for the third party?

    When the standard agreement is signed and the project starts (KO meeting), the third party receives a prepayment of ~25% of the cascade funding. Then the major payment (~60% of the funding) follows the schedule defined in the periodic report based on milestone delivery. The rest (~15% of the cascade funding) will be paid after the final review of the project, as detailed in the periodic report.

    How is the IP working? Is there any NDA to be signed?

    Please refer to the standard agreement (available on line).

    Are there any EuroCPS events or meetings that the third party needs to attend? If so, is the cost included in the cascade funding?

    Yes, the third party may need to attend some EuroCPS events for dissemination. To include the cost in the cascade funding budget needs to be discussed project to project as (and when)  the expenses have not always been included in the proposal budget.

    How does invoicing work for the contractor(s) hired by the third party to conduct the agreed work?

    The third party pays for it, it must be  already included in the budget.

    Yes, the proposal can utilise one or more EuroCPS platforms.

    An average Cascade funding of 60-70 k€ is most advised.

    Can 2 or more SMEs apply jointly?

    Yes, SMEs can join forces and apply jointly but with one lead beneficiary

    How will a design centre support me?

    This will be discussed between the SME and the dedicated partner and then reflected in the annex 4 of the Standard agreement (Specific Industrial experiment contract).

    Would a SME + university be an eligible consortium for a EuroCPS call?

    As matter of fact, this cannot be. EuroCPS motivations is to enable innovative companies to get access to advanced technologies and know-how and thus to bring support to the industrials not to the universities (which may apply to dedicated project calls). Furthermore it has been acted that in the context of EuroCPS cascade funding, no R&D can be subcontracted.

    If a SME proposal is rejected, can the project be resubmitted?

    Yes, if a SME project proposal is not accepted at the 1st or 2nd open call, the SME can resubmit the proposal at one of the next open calls.

    Is it possible to use the cascade funding for retroactive payments?

    No. The funding cannot be used for retroactive payments. It must correspond to work done during the timeline of the industrial experiment (as submitted).

    Is a proposal project subject to redefinition afterwards?

    No. The projects are accepted as they are described in the submitted proposal. There is no a posteriori negotiation.

    How to submit a project?

    All the open call documents are available on the website one week before each open call.
    The Applicant can take contact with a Design center (listed on the main page of the website) to help to complete the submission form.

    What are the conditions to apply to an EuroCPS open call?

    • The targeted products shall be designed, constructed and built on the EuroCPS Platforms provided by AVL, IFAT, Intel, SEI, ST-F, ST-I and Thales.
    • The planed work shall be in collaboration with at least one of the EuroCPS Competences centers for design support located across the European region at AVL, BME, DIGICAT, CEA, FhG, FPG, LTU, UNIBO and Thales.
    • The targeted projects shall be software intensive, system integration or innovative component.
    • The expected duration of the industrial experiment is 9 to 18 Months.

    What are the financial support conditions?

    • The financial support to Applicants support the R&D work. This comes in addition to coaching by competence centers and assistance from platform providers.
    • The maximum European Commission contribution for industrial experiments per applicant is €150000. The Funding rate is 70 % of the budget.

    • 1st call will be open on April 30, 2015
    • 2nd call will be open on October 28, 2015
    • 3rd call will be open on April 30, 2016

    To whom should the SME turn with a project idea?

    SMEs should contact a Design Center, either on geographical base or on expertise. You find information about the expertise of all design Centers on the web.

    How much money can an SME ask to support the proposed project?

    For each proposed project, SME can ask for a funding corresponding to 70% of the total budget. And the total funding available per SME is 150 000 € at maximum (over EuroCPS project duration).

    Who will decide if a proposed project will be supported or not?

    All proposals submitted on time will be evaluated throughout an evaluation procedure described in the Guide for Applicants (external experts and internal evaluation committee) and it will results in the selection of the proposals which will be supported and therefore funded on the base of EuroCPS Cascade funding process.

    Who will decide which platform will an SME use?

    The platform used by the SME is part of the submitted proposal. In order to define the most adequate platform for the proposal, the SME can rely on EuroCPS networking partner for advice and help to build the proposal.

    How will an SME know which is the optimal platform for the proposed product?

    The SME is advised to contact one of EuroCPS Design Centers. Information about the Design Centers can be found on EuroCPS website.

    What is the expected timeline of an SME project?

    The evaluation process is meant to last 5 weeks then the evaluation report is submitted to the EC for review of the selected SMEs and new entrants by the EC during 2 weeks. Therefore EuroCPS will communicate the result of each proposal to the proposer 7 weeks after the end of the call.

    How many projects can an SME submit?

    A SME can submit as many projects as she wishes (no limitation in project number) but the total funding available for an SME is 150 000 €.
