A Cyber Physical System (CPS) is a system of sub-systems with interfaces with users, the physical world and cyberspace. It is composed of application software running on a hardware/software platform, including specific hardware components. EuroCPS addresses CPS in six main application domains: smart transportation and large drive, smart home and cities; smart health, green computing and networking; industrial applications; and safety and secured systems. EuroCPS provides 2 kinds of platforms:
Most of the platforms are available on the market with a clear business model. The added value of EuroCPS will be to provide the required competences to enable third parties to use them. A clear profitable business model, for both users and platform providers and competence centres is defined.
CPS platforms enable small players to build innovative software applications and systems. In the frame of the EuroCPS project the required enablement includes providing stable SDK (Software Development Kit) and programming models in addition to demonstrators and validation environment. The access to these platforms will be regulated by strict common business rules. For each of these platforms EuroCPS will provide, in cooperation with platform providers and competence partners, support for designers to implement CPS solutions, including debugging support, development boards, software development kits and training. EuroCPS will make available a set of 5 CPS platforms for industrial experiments.
A components platform is a set of design services and components aimed to build innovative devices for CPS products. It includes semiconductor fabrication processes, as well as existing hardware components. Because the cost of R&D and fabrication of new components is too high, the funding of these activities is not covered in EuroCPS, Only architecture studies and HW-SW codesign will be supported. The complexity of these platforms will be hidden by the competence centres that will enable third parties exploring new competitive CPS products with innovative components. For each of these platforms EuroCPS will provide, in cooperation with platform providers and competence partners, support for designers to implement CPS solutions design flow and training. EuroCPS will make available a set of 3 components platforms for industrial experiments.
